MAY EXHIBITION 2019
SOOP / Suzy Faiz, Kate Scholes and Eila Vinwynn
FILTERS by SOOP is an exhibition by Suzy Faiz, Kate Scholes and Eila Vinwynn. Exhibiting together since 2013, this group of artists works primarily in the field of abstract painting. Whilst each artist has a different approach to abstraction, from Op Art to Abstract Expressionism and Collage, an appreciation can be found between the artists and their work. This has led to experimentation through collaboration, via conceptual and material methods.
FILTERS by SOOP presents a series of paintings in which each artist has chosen a female artist that appeals to them: Suzy Faiz - Helen Lundeberg, Kate Scholes - Jo Baer and Eila Vinwynn - Judith Godwin. Through the filter of their own style, they pay tribute to their chosen artist. Featuring individual works and a collaborative painting, they contemplate the diverse influences that infiltrate their work, from art history and obscured artists, to their contemporary surroundings. This exhibition allows for a collaboration that is manifested through individual responses to a fixed idea and explores how various approaches can intersect via abstract painting.
