Liminal/Latent

Liminal--Latent presents a selection of paintings from a long period of illness, when energy and life force could only really find an outlet in the colours and gestures of painting. These are presented alongside sculptural and video installation works reflecting on that potent time of latent and liminal learning –internally building the means of escape.

In many ways, healing is a mixture of creating and allowing, activity and passivity, connection and disconnection. It also involves treading the edge of a disconnection between body and mind, and between the rest of the waking, working world and your own space of enforced rest. A lot of understanding develops within this liminal space. But it’s hard to see that while you’re in it, because the learning is necessarily latent - waiting for a time of action and connection in order to apply it.
