I Know You Can See Us
I know you can see us! holds this deep attraction to the inanimate, bringing to life the lifeless. These works lay lifeless on the ground in car parks and on roads, destroyed by traffic, weather and people’s feet. They were once objects of beauty and utility. I saw them and they saw me. I resuscitated them.
By carefully threading the paint into thick tapestry like layers, I capture the deeply held connection I have to the innate beauty of these everyday objects and time. These deeply moving objects are a part of me, the thick layering telling a story as it excavates my memory and the past. Call these still lives or interior landscapes, these innate objects have been calling out to me for some time to bring life to the lifeless.
My practice rests fundamentally on patient laborious scrutiny of these objects as I anthropomorphize them to make sense this experience.
