Pink Log Project
he Pink Log Project is a community-based art venture by local artist Lisa Tolcher. The works explore the physical strength and mental toughness of women through repetitive action in photography and video. Started in 2018, the project aims to bring together women through the exploration of their collective personal experiences including but not limited to: the glass ceiling, reproductive rights, body image, societal expectations and oppression as well as motherhood.
The colour Pink is deemed to be associated with the feminine gender and was selected for the project to connect the work to contemporary female experiences. Gender signifying colours came into effect between World War I and World War II[1]. By coating heavy wooden logs with pink paint, the artist aims to confront patriarchal culture.
