PAMELA PIROVIC
For My Baba
For my Baba,
…. our grandmothers, our grandfathers, our grandparents, our stand-in wise, loving, and wholesome elderly figures.
The exhibition For My Baba delves into the themes of familial ties and cultural values, highlighting the artist's strong connection to her Baba (the Croatian term for “grandmother”). Through a series of works, the artist explores the significance of the elders in their lives and challenges societal perceptions of aging. It invites viewers to reconsider Western perceptions of aging, beauty, intergenerational relationships, and the passage of time. Pirovic recognises how fortunate they are in being able to document these moments with their Baba and the sense of loss of in not being afforded the same opportunity to capture the essence of their elders gone before. Visitors are invited to bring a photo — either of themselves with someone they love unconditionally, or simply of that loved one to contribute to a communal display within the exhibition space.
