CHRISTINE WILTSHIER

(mistake) Making Station, a participatory artwork

Artist Maker Christine Wiltshier works with, and at times subverts, the traditional rule based conventions of traditional textile hand making.  In her current Master of Fine Arts research, at UNSW Art & Design, she is working with the conventions of hand knitting, as a methodology through which to consider the generative potential of unintentional made mistakes.

In the participatory artwork,  (mistake) Making Station the gallery becomes both studio and exhibition space as Christine invites knitters, non-knitters and fellow mistake makers, to join her in experimenting with alternatives to unravelling mistakes, made whilst knitting. She will be working in the gallery space for the duration of the exhibition and will be providing playful instruction in; learning how to knit, remembering how to knit and for experienced knitters, alternative forms of pattern construction and improvisational knitting.
