MATISSE DOUGLASS
No Place Like Home
No Place Like Home is a series of intuitive abstract paintings created through a physical, embodied process where movement and gesture become a direct extension of emotion. Made in response to my relocation to Mparntwe/Alice Springs and shaped by the desert landscape on Arrernte Country, this body of work reflects my confrontation with the uncomfortable realities of Australia — often hidden elsewhere but impossible to ignore here. The series is a reckoning with privilege and belonging, asking what it truly means to call Australia home while living on stolen land.
